------------------------------------------- Dell USB Drive (FX2) Firmware Release Notes ------------------------------------------- =============================================================================== GENERAL INFORMATION: =============================================================================== The firmware update program, DELLDBUP.EXE. executes in Windows. The program can only find the hardware it needs to update if you have a hard drive, CD, DVD, CD-RW, etc. installed in the dock media bay or an attached D-Bay. Also, the drive *must* be visible to the OS (you need to be able to see the device in "My Computer"). If the firmware you are trying to update is older than A01, the update will not work if you have media in a CD/DVD/CDRW etc. drive when you run the update program. To ensure the update works, remove any media from the drive *before* you insert the drive into the D-Bay. Alternatively, you can insert a hard-disk if you have one--they do not have this issue. If the program finds hardware that it can update, it will automatically select (mark the checkbox) the devices to be updated if they contain firmware older than that in the release. Devices that have up-to-date or newer firmware will not be updated unless you force them to be. After a device has been reflashed, it must lose all power for several seconds before the update can take effect. For a Dell D-Bay, you only have to use the OS's Safe Eject icon to remove the D-Bay device. Then, simply unplug the D-Bay cable from the docking station (or notebook if so equipped) and leave it unplugged for 15 seconds. When you reinsert the D-Bay, the new firmware will be used. If you update the D-Dock media bay, you must safely shut down the note- book after running the update program. Then you need to undock the notbook, and remove the A/C plug from the D-Dock or the wall outlet. Leave the dock unplugged for about 15 seconds. The next time you use the dock media bay (after you plug the dock back into an A/C outlet), the new firmware will take effect. =============================================================================== RELEASE INFORMATION =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version: A01 Date: 4-28-2003 Fixes: 1. On D-Bays attached to notebooks, the BIOS would sometimes fail to recognize the devices, but they would work properly in the OS. Now the BIOS will detect the devices properly. 2. Fix the issue where reflashing a D-Bay device holding a CD/DVD/CD-RW etc. drive containing media would not work. Enhancements: 1. Hard drives in D-Bays and the D-Dock media bay will spin down after about 3 minutes of inactivity to conserve power. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Version: A00 Date: 1-16-2003 Initial release for the D-Dock media bay.
