Important Information ====================================================================== NOTICE: Prior generation firmware is indicated by version that begins with 06.xx.xx.xx, and the Generation 2 firmware starts with 07.xx.xx.xx. Existing hardware can be upgraded to the Generation 2 firmware. If updating from 06.xx.xx.xx version to 07.xx.xx.xx version, the upgrade is one way only; it is not possible to return to prior generation after starting this upgrade procedure. NOTICE: Microsoft Windows 2000 as a host OS is not supported by the Generation 2 firmware. Please migrate to a supported OS if usage of the enhancement features in the Generation 2 firmware is desired. NOTICE: Ensure that all Dell™ PowerVault™ MD1000 expansion enclosures being connected to the MD3000i are updated to the latest Dell™ PowerVault™ MD1000 EMM Firmware from support.dell.com. Dell™ PowerVault™ MD1000 EMM Firmware version A03 is the minimum required firmware level to support connection to the MD3000i array; attaching an MD1000 with unsupported firmware causes an uncertified condition to exist on the array. See the updated Hardware Owner's Manual on http://support.dell.com for more information. NOTICE: Ensure to check the MD3000i system support matrix on support.dell.com prior to connecting MD1000 enclosures to an MD3000i to ensure supported drives and firmware versions are used. ====================================================================== 4. Firmware upgrade instructions ====================================================================== IMPORTANT: It is highly recommended to gather support information from the "Support" tab of the MD Storage Manager prior to performing any firmware upgrade operations. This can also be achieved through the SMcli using the 'save storageArray supportData file="filename"' command. NOTICE: If upgrading from 06.xx.xx.xx version to 07.xx.xx.xx version, the MD Firmware Cross Generation Upgrade Utility must be used and all I/O must be stopped prior to starting the download procedures. The utility is installed along with the latest version of the MD Storage Manager. Please find the latest MD Storage Manager as part of the Resource CD iso image from http://support.dell.com. Upgrading from 06.xx.xx.xx to 07.xx.xx.xx firmware versions 1. Install the latest MD Storage Manager 2. Launch MD Firmware Cross Generation Update Utility 3. Select your storage array to be updated 4. Correct any fault conditions that would prevent the upgrade 5. Click "Download" from the left pane 6. Select the Generation 2 Firmware file and the corresponding NVSRAM file 7. Click "OK" The upgrade will cause disk drive activities and will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Please refer to the Dell™ PowerVault™ Modular Disk Storage Manager User's Guide for more details. NOTICE: If upgrading from 06.xx.xx.xx version to 06.xx.xx.xx version or from 07.xx.xx.xx to 07.xx.xx.xx, you must stop I/O prior to performing the following steps in a configuration with non redundant paths to the MD3000i. You must either stop I/O or ensure your multipathing driver is installed properly prior to performing the following steps with redundant paths to the MD3000i. Microsoft cluster solution firmware download performing I/O is running may terminate I/O. It is therefore recommended to perform firmware download as an off-line maintenance event. This is to be addressed in a future release. If Upgrading for the first time to include SATA support, please follow the instructions described in the "Upgrading to SATA on MD3000i" document on http://support.dell.com Upgrading from 07.xx.xx.xx to 07.xx.xx.xx firmware versions 1.
